Part 2 of our Christmas series challenges us to follow the shepherds lead, considering what responsibility we may need to release in order to draw near to Christ.
I have always been curious about who God chose to make his big announcement to – the announcement of Jesus’ birth. God could have come to the Roman leaders who were in charge of the culture. He could have chosen the religious leaders in Jerusalem who were in charge of spirituality. God could have chosen just about anybody. But he chose... shepherds. Outcasts. Wanderers. Blue-collar, regular guys. While I don’t understand the choice, I love it. I love that God would choose ordinary people to receive the news of the extraordinary. I love that God would come to regular people to whisper the beautiful thought: God is coming here – God is coming... near.
