Recovery…Our Common Journey

One of our core values at Christ the King Church is a Culture of Recovery. But even the word recovery comes with its own baggage. People may associate recovery groups with substance addiction or those who have endured significant abuse.

From our perspective, recovery is simply the process of recovering the life God intended for us. What we have found is that sometimes people need a little help along the way. A culture of recovery means encouragement to be honest and authentic about where you are without judgment or condemnation. In other words, you get to be a real person.

Recovery groups at CTK provide a community setting where you can experience God’s healing presence and power in a safe & supportive environment. By working through well developed materials, applying biblical principles, and sharing our experience with others we begin to grow spiritually, emotionally, and relationally in our journey.

The 12 Steps have often been misunderstood as a formula only necessary for people living with hard-core substance addictions. In fact, the 12 Step model is foundationally based on the healthy Christian life in pursuit of God. The healthy Christian practices the 12 Steps daily without even knowing it. The 12 Steps have become known as a practical way to manage old hurts and hang-ups that have disconnected us from God, others, and ourselves. 12 Steps groups are for anyone eager to move further into emotional, relational and spiritual health & maturity. Weekly meetings will involve some teaching time and safe, directed small group interaction.
