Child Dedications

What is Child Dedication?

1) Child dedication is not making a decision for the child to accept Christ nor does it in any way insure that a child will make a personal commitment to the person of Jesus Christ.

2) Child dedication is an intentional act of commitment whereby the parents commit themselves and their home to the purpose of raising up a child in a spiritually nurturing home environment.  In this sense, child dedication is actually a dedication of the parent(s).  It implies that the parents or parent will, by example, live in such a way as to create a genuine desire within their child to become a fully devoted follower of the person of Jesus Christ at as early of an age as possible.

3) Child dedication should be performed only on the understanding of and commitment to the above principals.  In the absence of such a commitment, it would be appropriate to postpone the act of dedication until such a time, as there is parental harmony with the principles on which child dedication is founded.

At CTK we value Family. We believe that the purpose of parenting is to impress the hearts of our children with a love for God. Loving and knowing God is the purpose of life, and the role of the parent is to lead children to that truth.  If we are not intentional with our parenting, we run the risk of ending up with a family filled with achievement, recreation, and niceness. God has a far grander plan for us and for our children.

To encourage parents at the start of this amazing journey, we offer Child Dedications three times a year in March, June and October.  Child Dedication is a two part process that consists of a three week class and a Dedication Service the following week.

If you’d like to dedicate your child to God, the first step is to attend a three-session class held on Sundays. The class covers:

  • Biblical teaching on what it truly means to dedicate your child to God
  • Biblical instruction on parenting, setting your home apart for the Lord, having goals and plans for raising your family, and the role of god-parents
  • Building accountability and encouragement into your life to help you follow through after the dedication service

Class Dates

  • March 4, 11 and 18, 2012 from 11:30 AM - 12:45 PM
  • June 3, 10 and 17, 2012 from 11:30 AM - 12:45 PM
  • October 7, 14 and 21, 2012 from 11:30 AM - 12:45 PM

The second element is the Child Dedication Service. We encourage families to invite close friends, family and god-parents to participate in the Dedication Service as part of their support and accountability team.  More information about the service is given during the class. Attendance to the three week class is mandatory for those wanting to participate in the service.

Service Dates

  • March 25, 2012 from 4-5pm
  • June 24, 2012 from 4-5pm
  • October 28, 2012 from 4-5pm

There is no cost for the class or the dedication service. However you must RSVP for the class at least one week prior to the class start date by submitting a Child Dedication Request Form
