Children's Baptism Info
Should my child be baptized?
The decision to be baptized is an important step in any person’s life.
We hope this list will be helpful to you in determining whether or not your child is ready to be baptized. Please remember that the decision to be baptized is a personal step of faith and should only be taken when the individual person is sure that he/she is ready to publicly profess his/her faith and follow Christ with his/her life.
1. Was the idea of being baptized initiated by my child?
2. Can my child clearly articulate his/her salvation experience? (Do they know when, where, and how they were saved?)
3. Is my child at an age (usually 8 or older) where he/she will remember his/her baptism experience as a significant proclamation of faith?
4. Does my child have a clear reason for wanting to be baptized and is that reason biblically sound?
Please take the time to carefully explore these questions with your child. There are no right or wrong answers. Your child should simply express where they are at in their personal walk with Christ. Do not coach your child. This step of faith is between them and God. If they are unable to answer the questions in a way that satisfies the basic knowledge and understanding needed before the decision to baptize is made, then the best decision is to wait. We are all works in progress. Because we are saved from the moment we ask Christ into our lives, there is no urgency to be baptized. God will move in your child’s life in His perfect time. Continue to live your life as an example of a Christ-centered life to your child, pray for them daily, teach them about Jesus, and allow God to do the rest.
