Henrich Brockhaus - Elder
I was born in Berlin, Germany in 1932.
My wife Gundel and I have been married since 1959.
Our six children (the last three were adopted), have all left home some time ago.
I came to North America (Vancouver, BC) in 1955. Gundel traveled on the same ship
(for two whole weeks) and the same train (5 days) but we only met two years later!
I attended UBC for six years and got my PH.D at the University of Washington.
At WWU, I taught German literature, history and language from 1965-1997.
Born into a Christian family (Plymouth Brethren) I always knew about the Lord – and was lost. I accepted Him at a summer camp in 1950. My life changed drastically
and my great fear of dying and going to hell was taken from me. (My best friend had been
killed by a bomb in WWII, and twice our home had been destroyed in air raids)
I have been an elder (also chairman of the Board at times) for many years at Geneva
Community Church (now Northlake) and Good Shepherd. Since 1967 I have been
involved in teaching adult classes.
I came to CTK at the end of 1999. I became a member because I want to be used here and want to be
held responsible. I joined a small group and am leading one now. I love the people in this group because they love me, care for me and I care for them and we can talk about our daily lives.
Teaching What Do I Believe is a privilege: There is nothing greater and more
encouraging than to study in some depth the greatness of our God and how He deals with us.
I like it at CTK because the love of Christ is apparent to anyone who comes through the door.
I am here because there is a vision for the unsaved and I can be used here.
A couple of my favorite Bible verses are:
But God demonstrates His own love toward us that Christ died for us
while we were yet sinners.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. A good understanding have those
who do His commandments. His Praise remains forever. |
