J.D. Holt - Executive Pastor
p. 360-733-1337 x.243
I was born into a Christian home and grew up knowing and honoring the Lord Jesus Christ. At a young age, I made my profession of faith and was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church (SBC). At 16, I rededicated my life to Christ making him Lord of my life and surrendering to full-time Christian service.
My wife, Christy, and I have been married for 29 years, and our marriage has been blessed with two wonderful daughters, Shaylene and Sharise. Shaylene is currently living in Denver, and Sharise is attending John Brown University (an evangelical Christian college in Arkansas). Our family also includes a toy poodle, Lacey.
I received my BA in Psychology from Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas in 1975. I had begun working for Youth for Christ after graduating from high school, and served in various capacities and in various locations (Topeka, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Chicago and Denver) over 28 years. The last position was as Director of Operations for the DC/LA events where over 30,000 young people were trained in evangelism in 1994 and 1997.
After leaving YFC in 1998, I was hired by Church of the Rock in Castle Rock, CO. This was our home church and it was a pleasure to join staff after serving in various volunteer capacities over the previous eight years. Christy and I have always been involved in worship ministries, and Christy served on the Creative Arts committee where she helped facilitate community outreaches through the arts. I have served as Small Group coordinator, Sunday School teacher, youth volunteer, elder and in men’s ministry.
Here at Christ the King, we are excited to see what God is doing in NW Washington! It is thrilling to be a part of such a vibrant staff who want to see God reach the lost and broken of Whatcom county. As I see the direction that has been set by Pastor Grant and the Church Council, I am eager to do my part to see the mission accomplished.
My favorite verses are, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, NLT) and “For God is love.” (I John 4:8b, NLT)
