History

In 1988, a group of 54 adults faced a pivotal decision. They had started a new church in 1981, but after seven years the church had fallen on hard times. It was deeply in debt and attendance was in decline. The leadership of the church took a new direction with commitment and focus on three important principles:

  1. The church would be devoted to worshipping God.
  2. The church would be dedicated to the mission of reaching people who did not know Christ as their Savior.
  3. The church would be determined to obey the “one another” commands of scripture, caring for each other through the ministry of small groups.

The church accepted this challenge and changed its name to Christ the King Church. One by one, debts were paid, lives were forever changed, and ministries were given away to newcomers. Since 1988 the average weekly attendance has grown from 70 people to more than 3,000 in 2001. Today, over 2,000 people meet weekly in some sort of face-to-face small group. Since 1988, 1,104 people have followed the Lord in water baptism.

After outgrowing three other locations, Christ the King Church purchased its current facility in Cordata Place in the summer of 1998 and held its first service there in September 1998.

The next Welcome to CTK is scheduled for Sunday, August 17, 2008 from 12:30-1PM in Room 213. Find out more by clicking here.
